Indian National Cricket team’s Test specialist, Cheteshwar Pujara will be plying his trade in the upcoming Saurashtra Premier League. Meanwhile, the tournament will start from May 14, and Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot will host the five-team tournament.

Saurashtra Cricket Association in an official statement revealed the news of the Cheteshwar Pujara’s availability. They also added that everyone is happy to hear that their favourite cricketer will grace the Saurashtra Premier League. Pujara will play the tournament before joining his County side – Yorkshire. He was in good form in the domestic T20 league – Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy scoring a hundred and three thirty+ knocks. Pujara will look to carry that form in the tournament and help the side with his massive experience.

The five teams to take part in the debut edition of the tournament are Sorath Lions, Zalawad Royals, Halar Heroes, Gohilwad Gladiators and Kutch Warriors. However, the decision on which team Cheteshwar Pujara will go will take place on Thursday in the presence of team owners and a representative of an independent auditor. The final of the tournament will be on May 22 before Pujara flies to England to take part in the County Cricket for Yorkshire. There were speculations over his participation, but now that he will play, it will add a star quotient to the tournament.

Cheteshwar Pujara has a three-year contract with the County side. He will feature for them in the month of June and July to prepare for the series against Windies just after the ICC World Cup 2019. Along with Pujara, six other players including Ajinkya Rahane will feature in the County Cricket to keep themselves match fit before the two-match Test series against Windies.

“Five teams are participating in this maiden SPL and now teams can select Cheteshwar Pujara for the SPL as he shall be available to play in the SPL,” the statement read. “Everyone involved in SPL is immensely happy that finally Cheteshwar got the window from his commitment to county cricket at England and has expressed his availability to participate in this T20 tournament,” the release added.
