7 more corona virus cases in the state, toll reaches to 160 in Maharashtra

Bad news for Maharashtra as the number of Coronavirus cases has risen in the state over the last 24 hours with seven more testing positive for the Covid-19 disease on Saturday.

According to available information, of the total to 160 in the state till date.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray appealed to the people to stay home, saying the crucial stage in the fight against the virus has begun. There the virus can go on multiplying, resulting in the rise of patients multifold.

But there is no need to panic as many patients have gotten cured after timely and right treatment, he said However, the police said there are fewer people coming out on the streets compared to the crowding in some parts of the state during the first few days of the lockdown in Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra government had announced a complete shutdown a day before the 21-day lockdown was imposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24.

However, migrant workers stranded after the lockdown were seen on the highways trying to find ways to return to their respective states.

Seven such workers were knocked down by a speeding truck on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway early on Saturday. Four of them were reportedly declared dead on admission in the nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases in the country has increased to 873, and the deadly virus has claimed 21 lives so far. The latest victim of the virus was a 63-year-old patient from Kerala.

With this, the state has reported first coronavirus related death. Only 78 patients have been cured and discharged from hospitals in India thus far.

Across the world, the virus has infected 607,166 people and has claimed 27,774 lives. After a sudden increase in cases, the US has now the highest number of coronavirus patients in the world with 104,256 cases. Italy leads with the most deaths at 9,134.
